Concert by Claudio Baglioni at Med. Centre

Top Italian singer-writer Claudio Baglioni (picture) will perform at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, in Valletta on December 10.
He is being brought over by NnG Promotions in association with Colours of Malta.
Best known for songs like Piccolo Grande Amore, Avrai and Strada Facendo, which have almost become anthems, the singer is expected to wow his 1,400-strong audience with his solo concert during which, fans will be pleased to know, he will be playing his all-time greatest hits.
The artist is not being accompanied by his band as was the case with Elton John and will be creating an intimate and personal atmosphere, NnG Promotions director Nigel Camilleri said.
Claudio Baglioni has been to Malta before but only to perform at private functions and corporate events.
This is the first time that the Maltese public will be able to enjoy his live show, Mr Camilleri said.
Still going strong at 54, and looking better than ever, the Italian performer is celebrating 40 years of a successful career and has an intense schedule. Renowned also for his good looks, his heart throb status is indisputable. He has a very strong following here, with fans across generations.
Mr Camilleri said he was proud to have one of the most popular Italian artists over the last 30 years to be appearing in Malta.
Tickets will be on sale from early next week from the MCC

Claudio Baglioni solo concert in Malta
by STEPHEN CALLEJA

Baglioni will give what is known as an intimate concert, in which he will be the sole performer together with his piano and guitar.

The singer, born on 16 May 1951 in Rome, is possibly the greatest solo Italian artist. His career dates back to the late 1960s but he exploded on the Italian scene in 1972 with his masterpiece Questo Piccolo Grande Amore, a song which was later given the title of Song of the Century in Italy.

His success continued in the 1970s with songs like E tu..., with which he won the Festivalbar in 1974, Sabato Pomeriggio and Poster. His appearances became more sporadic as from the 1980s onwards, but songs like Avrai, dedicated to his newly-born son in 1982, Strada Facendo and La vita e’ adesso were also major hits.

His more recent albums included excellent interpretations like Mille Giorni di Te e di Me, Fammiandarvia and Tutto in un Abbraccio, and only this month he released a collection of 40 songs that take his fans through 38 years of success – Tutti Qui 1967-2005.

Baglioni’s concert will take place on 10 December at 8.30pm and, according to Nigel Camilleri for Nng Promotions, organisers of the event, the singer is contracted to produce a 90-minute concert. But it is possible that he will continue singing for longer, he said.

Tickets, at Lm45 each in all areas, are on sale as

from today from the Mediterranean Conference Centre. A ticket hotline is available on 9933-4444. There are 1,400 tickets available.

Davide Cachia, managing director of Colours of Malta, who are helping in organising the event, said that Mr Baglioni had specifically asked to sing at the MCC because of the success he had had when he already performed there in a private concert last year.

It is possible that Baglioni could be back in Malta, this time with his band, some time in summer, the organisers said.

Baglioni tickets on sale today Cynthia Busuttil
Tickets at Lm45 for the concert of Italian singer and musician Claudio Baglioni will go on sale from the Mediterranean Conference Centre, in Valletta today.
In three weeks' time, Mr Baglioni will give a solo performance, playing his greatest hits on piano and guitar to an audience of up to 1,400 people.
The December 10 concert will last at least 90 minutes, Nigel Camilleri, from NnG Promotions, the organisers of the concert, said during a press briefing yesterday.
Claudio Baglioni shot to fame in 1972 with his album Questo Piccolo Grande Amore. His song bearing the same title was later proclaimed the Italian song of the century.
Dr Camilleri expressed his conviction that the concert will be a success. Since it had been announced on Thursday that the singer was going to give a concert in Malta, the phones at the Mediterranean Conference Centre had not stopped ringing.
The singer has already been to Malta to perform for participants of a conference, Davide Cachia, managing director of Colours of Malta, said. Mr Cachia said that as an architect, Claudio Baglioni appreciated Malta and especially the Mediterranean Conference Centre, where he had performed. It was the singer himself who asked whether this concert could be held there.
Mr Cachia described Claudio Baglioni as Italy's best solo singer, one who was very well known in Malta.
Dr Camilleri said the lack of a bigger indoor venue which could be used in winter did not permit the organisers to bring over the singer's band too and they opted for a more intimate concert. However, once the singer will be playing solo, he would have more opportunity to play the crowd's favourite songs, he added.
